Dear Members,
As we move into the second half of 2026, I wanted to highlight a couple of important items to be mindful of over the coming months.
A quick reminder that tickets are now available for the 2026 AGWA State and National Awards Nights. These events are one of the highlights of the industry calendar and provide an opportunity to celebrate excellence in design, safety, apprenticeships, innovation and business achievement across the Glass and Window sector. Whether you are attending to support your team, celebrate industry success, connect with colleagues or recognise the next generation of talent, we look forward to seeing you there.
We are also pleased to advise that AGWA is progressing work towards a formal review of the Certificate III in Glass and Glazing, with funding support looking increasingly likely. This review is expected to commence in the coming months and will provide a rare opportunity for industry to influence how our trade is trained into the future. I would like to thank everyone who took the time to participate in our skills and workforce surveys over the past year. The feedback provided by members has helped AGWA build the evidence base needed to demonstrate that the current qualification no longer fully reflects contemporary industry practices and that change is required. Recent AGWA submissions have drawn directly on industry feedback, identified training gaps, workforce challenges and opportunities for new skill sets and career pathways.

This is an opportunity for the industry to help shape the next generation of glaziers, processors, fabricators and installers. If you would like to be involved in consultation workshops, working groups or provide input throughout the review process, please contact the AGWA office.
Another issue that all employers should have firmly on their radar is the introduction of Payday Super (Link Below), which comes into effect from 1 July 2026.

NatHERS expansion: Stage 2 rolling out from July!
The release of Stage 2 of NatHERS for existing homes has been confirmed for July 2026. This exciting news follows 12 months of collaborative work with assessors and other key partners to enhance processes, software tools and communications for the program.

AGWA Safety May Topic of the Month This month's focus is Cuts and Lacerations
Loading and unloading glass is one of the most dangerous tasks that we undertake and open to so many hazards. The most common injuries are musculoskeletal disorders (from lifting or carrying glass that is too big or too heavy), crush injuries, falling from heights (falling off the truck) and cuts and lacerations. Together these categories make up 50% of serious injuries and fatalities.
AGWA 2026 Safety Calendar June Topic Toolbox Talk on Arm and Hand Safety
The most common injuries in the glass industry are cuts to the hands and arms caused by sharp edges of glass sheets during their cutting, moving, setting, and other handling operations. Injuries to feet and legs are, sadly, not far behind this statistic.
New South Wales Compliance with Codes of Practice from 1 July 2026
The Industrial Relations and Other Legislation Amendment (Workplace Protections) Act 2025 (NSW) has amended the Work Health and Safety Act in NSW. From 1 July 2026, all Codes of Practice will become legally binding.
South Australian Changes to High-Risk Construction Work from 1 July 2026
The Work Health and Safety Regulations 2012 (SA) are changing to reduce the working at height threshold for high-risk construction work from 3 m to 2 m from 1 July 2026.
