Window Induction


While a transom and a mullion seem second nature to those in the industry, it is another language to new employees. Completely revamped in 2023, the Window Induction course is designed to be part of the induction process for new employees in the window and door industry. The aim is to provide them with sufficient understanding of the terminology, glass, framing materials and other aspects of the industry that are vital to enable them to communicate well, right from the time they begin work.

The course contains modules on the basics of AS 1288, AS 2047 and AS 4055 and their interaction with the NCC as well the properties of aluminium, timber, uPVC and the different types of glass. The course takes 2-3 hours and each of the modules includes a quiz to ensure the employee understands what has been covered. Once successfully completed, a Certificate can be downloaded and printed.

Glass Induction


This Glass Induction course has been designed to introduce glass to a new employee. Starting off in a new industry can be overwhelming with words like annealed and heat-strengthened sounding foreign.  

The course covers how glass is made and the different types of glass available today. It looks at safety glass , IGUs and introduces the concept of energy and energy efficient glass. It introduces technical definitions that are common language around the workplace, along with the NCC and glass standards. The concept of human impact and its importance when quoting is also covered.

The aim is to provide employees that are new to the industry with sufficient understanding to feel comfortable interacting with customers and other staff right away.

The course takes approximately 2 to 3 hours and includes narration, videos and a quiz at the end of each module that must be passed before moving onto the next section. Once successfully completed, a Certificate can be downloaded and printed.

AS 1288 Human Impact and Wind Loadings


Australian Standard 1288: 2021 Glass in buildings – Selection and installation is of vital importance to the window and glass Industry. Understanding the content of the Standard and how to interpret it can be difficult. The course is designed to help those working in the glass and window industry who need to ensure compliance with this Standard, by covering the basics of the Standard in Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8. As its title implies, there is a strong focus on Section 4 (Wind Loadings) and Section 5 (Human Impact Safety). The modules include detailed explanations, diagrams and examples to help understand the complexities of the Standard.

The course takes about 3 hours to complete, including the quizzes and you will need  a copy of AS 1288: 2021 and the Supplement to complete this training. Once successfully completed, a Certificate can be downloaded and printed.

Note: Section 6 – Sloped Overhead Glazing; Section 7 – Barriers; and Section 9 – Framed, Unframed and Partly Framed Glass Assemblies are only briefly covered in this training. AS 4055 Tool


AGWA has developed an online tool to determine the wind load ratings for residential housing as required under AS 4055: 2021 – Wind loads for housing. The Tool, new in 2023, is available free of charge to all AGWA members who have completed the training on the use of the Tool. The course provides an overview of the content of AS 4055: 2021 and covers terrain, shielding and  wind zones, as well as  how Google Earth can be used to obtain the data that is required to be entered into the Tool to calculate ratings.

Once the rating has been calculated, the AS 4055 Tool produces a Report that can be used as evidence to support the selection of both the glass and the windows for a building.
This course consists of one module and a quiz and takes about 1 hour to complete. You must then pass an assessment before a license to use the tool is granted. There is no license fee or ongoing costs associated with the use of the tool for AGWA members.

National Construction Code


This course explores the National Construction Code (NCC) as it relates to and impacts on the Glass and Window Industry. The NCC applies to all new buildings, alterations that require a DA and any change of class of a building. Part 3 of the NCC relates to glazing and this course reviews elements to ensure compliance. The course reviews performance requirements, alternative solutions, accessibility, ventilation, light and barriers. 

The NCC course consists of two modules and a quiz and takes about 2 hours to complete. Once successfully completed, a Certificate can be downloaded and printed.

Restricted Openings


The requirements for restricted window openings for the prevention of falls from openable windows in the NCC can be very confusing. This course was developed to promote an understanding of the requirements for compliance.

The course, updated in 2023, steps through the requirements and provides information of the type of restrictions for various rooms and additional information and clarification including devices, size of openings and retro fit. The training is supported by a flowchart to provide an easy way to identify the restriction requirements. NSW Strata rules have been integrated. 

This short course takes about 1.5 hours to complete, including a quiz. Once successfully completed, a Certificate can be downloaded and printed.

AS 1288 Compliance Quiz - MEMBER ONLY


This quiz is designed to meet the needs of workers in the window and glass industry who need to ensure currency and compliance with AS 1288: 2021 Glass in buildings – Selection and installation.

This online exam consists of 20 multiple choice questions, that will assess your understanding of AS 1288. The exam takes less than an hour and you must achieve 100%. The exam must be completed in one sitting.

On successful completion you will receive a Certificate that you can submit as evidence of training for your annual AGWA Compliance Audit.

WHS for Workers


New in 2023, this course is designed as an introduction to safety for workers starting in the workplace or as a refresher. It is written for workers rather than a PCBU. Like our other Induction courses, it allows new employees to gain an understanding of workplace requirements and their responsibilities, including their involvement in emergency procedures, identifying hazards and being a part of risk management.

Finally, the worker will gain tips and hints on how to prevent common injuries in the glass and window industry, including manual handling, lacerations, falls and trips. This course is a must to ensure all new employees realise that WHS is everyone’s responsibility.

This course consists of one module and a quiz and takes about 1.5 hours to complete. Once successfully completed, a Certificate can be downloaded and printed.

WHS Foundation


The WHS Foundation course has been designed as an industry specific online training course for all employees of the glass and window industry. The course includes a comprehensive WHS manual and links to many WHS and safety resources for use within your organisation.

AS 2047


The AS 2047 course provides an in-depth coverage and explanation of all the requirements of AS 2047:2014 – Windows and external glazed doors, which sets out requirements for materials, construction, installation and glazing for external windows, sliding and swinging glazed doors, including French and bi-fold doors, adjustable louvres, shopfronts and window walls with one-piece framing elements.

This course consists of two modules covering performance, framing and finishes, glazing, components, labelling and certificates and installation and a quiz, takes about 3 hours to complete. Once successfully completed, a Certificate can be downloaded and printed.

Acoustics


Acoustics is the study of the production, control, transmission and reception of sound and its effects, and is becoming more and more of a consideration for new windows and for retro fit solutions. This course explores the science of Acoustics as it relates to and impacts on windows and doors.

The course, updated in 2023, reviews what are sound and sound waves, noise and decibel levels, seals and the acoustic testing of windows. There is detailed information on glazing and different options and tips for customers.

This course consists of one module and a quiz and takes about 2 hours to complete. Once successfully completed, a Certificate can be downloaded and printed.

Windows and Doors in Bushfire-Prone Areas


The Bushfire course introduces and explains the window and door requirements in AS 3959 – Construction of buildings in bushfire prone areas. The course training covers bushfire screens; bushfire shutters; timber and other materials; radiant heat; ember attack; bushfire attack levels; testing; weepholes and gaps; and the requirements for each of the Bushfire Attack Levels. Module 2 gives a detailed coverage of each BAL and then provides practical guidance on shutters and screens, frames, glass, and openings to ensure compliance with the Standard.

This course consists of two modules and a quiz and takes about 2 hours to complete. Once successfully completed, a Certificate can be downloaded and printed.

Window Energy

This course covers all the basic information about windows and energy efficiency. The course covers energy performance characteristics and glazing, including types of frames and glass options and their influence. The course also reviews climate zones, shade, ventilation, U-values and SHGC and condensation before translating this into products, energy requirements and selecting the best windows.

This course consists of four modules and a quiz and takes about 2 hours to complete. Once successfully completed, a Certificate can be downloaded and printed.

Wind Loads for Windows


This course explores how wind loads are determined. The course covers the applicable Standards, wind loads and speed, determining a wind load, SLS and ULS, building classifications, corner windows, wind load regions, terrain, topography and shielding. AS 4055 Table 2.2 is also covered in detail.

The course does not provide instruction on determining wind loads but illustrates how complicated doing so can be due to the many factors that need to be considered. (For finding load calculations please see AS 4055 Tool course information.

AS 2047 Compliance Quiz - MEMBER ONLY


This quiz is designed to exhibit your in-depth knowledge of all the requirements in the Australian Standard (AS) 2047: 2014 – Windows and external glazed doors. This online exam consists of 20 multiple choice questions, that will assess your understanding of AS 2047.

The exam takes less than an hour and you must achieve 100%. The exam must be completed in one sitting. On successful completion you will receive a  Certificate that you can submit as evidence of training for your annual AGWA Compliance Audit.

All AGWA's On-Demand courses are delivered online through MOODLE. We have collated some general information on course structure and progression below.

  • A course can be commenced at any time within 60 days of your registration being confirmed. If you require an extension, please email our Training Department
  • Users can save their progress and exit the course at any time. Courses can be completed over multiple sessions.
  • Each course is divided into several Modules. Each Module includes a quiz to ensure that the information has been absorbed. Students must successfully complete each quiz to proceed to the next Module. Quizzes cannot be skipped.
  • If a course has been purchased for someone else to complete, please contact our Training Department to advise them of that person's name before starting the course. 
  • Certificates are automatically generated upon successful completion of the course, and are downloaded from MOODLE.
  • CPD points are assigned upon successful completion of the course.
