The AS 1288 Calculator allows you to calculate the minimum glazing provisions for glass in various locations based on Wind Load and Human Impact.
WHAT IS THE AS 1288 TOOL?
The updated AS 1288 Online Tool has been developed by the Australian Glass and Window Association to provide a quick and easy method to calculate the thickness of glass when it is subjected to human impact and wind loads.
The selection of glass subject to wind loading is an involved procedure using complex charts and formulas to calculate glass thickness to meet both stress (ULS) and deflection (SLS) requirements.
The AS 1288 tool combines both calculations to give a simple method for members to calculate glass thickness for single glazing and both equal and unequal pane double glazing.
The tool provides a required glass thickness based on calculations considering both the human impact and wind load impacts. The tool also helps with selection of glass subject to human impact for two-edged and four-edged supported glazing systems. Once the glass thickness has been calculated, the user can print out a copy of the page as a record of the selection of the glass for the windows you are purchasing.
This tool is mobile friendly and can be accessed via any smartphone or tablet once logged into the tool on the AGWA website.
