Victoria COVID Update, 16 September 2021

Just in case you have been having withdrawal symptoms from my emails of doom – here I am again. And I’m sorry – but the news is not awesome.

The following restriction changes were announced this afternoon and come into effect from tomorrow night (Friday) for the Construction Industry:

  • Construction workers will NOT be able to cross the metropolitan-regional boundary for work. This means that sites in metropolitan Melbourne will not allow regional Victorian workers on site and vice versa.
  • Drivers who are delivering supplies to construction sites will be able to move between metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
  • Tea rooms will need to close, and food or drink will not be able to be consumed indoors at work.
  • Worker shift bubbles must be in practice and all sites will require a COVID Marshal on site.

From 11:59 pm Thursday, 23 September, workers may only enter a construction site if they:

  • have had at least their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine (or proof of booking for their first dose), or
  • have a medical exception for the COVID-19 vaccine.

At this stage construction workforce limits will remain unchanged however construction can increase to 50 per cent capacity when 90 per cent of staff at a site are vaccinated.

Priority vaccination access

Construction workers can now access a priority vaccination booking by calling the Coronavirus hotline on 1800 675 398. Limited walk-in appointments are also available for construction workers.

No doubt there will be more information released over the coming days. I will send through further clarification as soon as I receive it.

Take care and look after each other. There is a light at the end of the tunnel - if you squint you can see it I promise!

If there is anything we can do to assist please do not hesitate to contact myself or the rest of the AGWA team.

Stay safe and take care,
