Issues regarding defect notices for glass-carrying vehicles in South Australia highlighted the lack of appropriate regulations for trucks, resulting in many members having significant difficulty getting their vehicles back on the road.
While the issue was not directly affecting his home state of Queensland, Mark had the foresight to see any new regulations would also eventually have nationwide impact for the whole industry and began to work in consultation with the glass industry and relevant South Australian authorities to achieve a mutually agreeable outcome.
Mark’s vast knowledge and experience in transporting bulk and commercial quantities of glass enabled him to ensure any new requirements were feasible and achievable for industry.
Mark was instrumental in negotiating a solution that was attainable for industry but also met pedestrian safety requirements of South Australia’s Department of Infrastructure and Transport, resulting in a new South Australian Legislation that will be implemented in in January 2022.
