2021 AGWA Apprentice Awards

NOMINATIONS CLOSE 30 JULY, 2021

Apprentices are the future of the glass and window industry. They play an integral role and make an enormous contribution to the businesses that employ them. By recognising the best apprentices at both state and national levels, we indicate to apprentices and as an industry, that professional trades people are highly valued. The annual Apprentice Awards aim to recognise excellence and honour their achievements.

The AGWA Apprentice Awards are first judged and awarded at a state level. The winners of the State Apprentice of the Year category will then go on to be judged at the national level by competing in a practical CAPSTONE showcase. The National Apprentice of the Year will be awarded to the highest scoring apprentice in the assessment of practical and theoretical skills.

This year, we are pleased to announce the introduction of a new category, the Glass Processor Apprentice Award. Read more about all categories below.

APPRENTICES PLEASE NOTE:

Nominees must have been enrolled in formal Apprenticeship training between 1 June 2020 and 31 August 2021 and nominees must be employed by a financial AGWA member or be an Apprentice Glazier member of the AGWA.

 If you or your employer is not a current member of AGWA, you may still enter the competition by becoming an AGWA Student Member.  Membership is free for apprentices. Contact Kerrie Henderson at [email protected] or on 02 9498 2768 (ext. 451) for a membership form.

Award Categories

RISING STAR

This award is presented to an outstanding apprentice within the first or second year of their apprenticeship who consistently demonstrates quality workmanship.

To be eligible for this award the apprentice must have been 21 or younger when they commenced their apprenticeship.

COMMERCIAL FABRICATOR / INSTALLER

This award is presented to a third or fourth year apprentice who demonstrates a high level of capability in commercial fabrication or installation work.

RESIDENTIAL FABRICATOR/INSTALLER

This award is presented to a third or fourth year apprentice who demonstrates a high level of capability in residential fabrication or installation work.

GLASS PROCESSOR

This award is presented to a third or fourth year apprentice who demonstrates a high level of capability in glass processing work.

STATE APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR

The recipient of this award is selected from the Residential, Commercial and Glass Processor categories. The State Apprentice of the Year is an apprentice who demonstrate the highest level of capability and quality workmanship out of all candidates in their state.

To be eligible for this award the apprentice must have been 21 or younger when they commenced their apprenticeship and must not have completed their apprenticeship before 1 June 2020.

Each winner from this category goes forward as the state entry for the National Apprentice of the Year Award.

NATIONAL APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR

The National award will be judged by a CAPSTONE assessment. In 2021, the CAPSTONE assessment will be held in Sydney, New South Wales. State Apprentice of the Year winners will be flown to Sydney by AGWA to compete in the prestigious event.

The National Apprentice of the Year Award will be awarded to the highest scoring apprentice in the assessment of practical and theoretical skills.
